While millions of Americans have suddenly found them- selves unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a new ministry sponsored by Epiph- any Church seeks to help. "Rethinking Employment: New-Age Branding" offers sup- port for the unemployed, un- deremployed and those seeking new opportunities, said Brayton Bowen, a parishioner of Epiph- any who leads the ministry. As unemployment rates rise and job opportunities decline, job seekers are confronted with sig- nificant challenges, Bowen said. "We recognize how the mar- ket has changed. We focus on how we can brand individuals and utilize skills they already possess," he said in a recent phone interview. The ministry has a team of advisors who specialize in dif- ferent fields of work. An inter- ested candidate first contacts Bowen and he connects the candidate with an advisor or subject-matter expert. The two meet - either virtu- ally or in-person as is safe - to

After her mother died in 1990, Missy Bartlett, a Louis- ville theology teacher and lover of puzzles, came across her mother's homemade crossword puzzles. "My mom was disabled with rheumatoid arthritis and spent a long time in a wheelchair. As a hobby, she decided to make crossword puzzles, herself," Bartlett said in a recent phone interview. Discovering her mother's collection of puzzles inspired Bartlett to give puzzle-making a try. And since her expertise was in theology, she decided to cen- ter her puzzles on that theme. For the last 20 years, her crossword puzzles have chal- lenged The Record's puzzlers every week. Her puzzles are also published in Catholic news- papers across the nation and internationally, including in Canada and Singapore. Before she created word puzzles, Bartlett was well into her teaching career. She's been teaching theology in Catholic schools for more than 40 years. She began her career at An- gela Merici High School and then taught at Sacred Heart Academy for 20 years. She briefly left to teach at DeSales and St. Xavier high schools. She returned to Sacred Heart six years ago. She also teaches courses at Spalding University. As she ventured into puzzle making, she learned the craft from scratch. "When I first started I did it by hand and that took forever," she said with a chuckle. She quickly moved her opera- tion to a computer program and developed her own crossword dictionary of theology terms. She plugs in the clues and the program makes them fit. She carefully reviews and edits each one to ensure the puzzle's ac- curacy. She considers puzzle-making part of her ministry as a Catho- lic educator. "I see it as being a way to teach people, to remind people of what they learned in a fun way," she said. Bartlett said she listened when Pope Francis encouraged Catholics to proclaim the faith

Family Renewal Project, an apostolate in the Archdiocese of Louisville, is calling Catholics to take part in "The Way of Trust" a 54-day rosary novena in- tended to "unify and strengthen the body of Christ" amid the coronavirus pandemic. The prayer initiative begins Aug. 15, the Feast of the As- sumption. The first rosary of the novena will be prayed after the noon feast day Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption. It will conclude Oct. 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. "During this time of tumult and readjustments, many of us continue to feel disjointed and are yearning for unity," said Donna Burry, director of Family Renewal Project. "We believe in- dividuals and families will find comfort and peace when uniting in prayer for the same intention, trusting that Jesus, through his mother and his earthly father Joseph, will protect and guide us." The 54-day prayer initiative is a series of six novenas - three are prayed in petition and three are prayed in thanks-
