Gratitude for soldiers
St. Stephen Martyr School students collected items for Thanksgiving dinner, toys and gift baskets for members of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Campbell near the Kentucky-Tennessee border. While at Fort Knox for training, the soldiers visited the students at their school on Hess Lane, where they picked up the donations. The contributions included Thanksgiving dinner boxes, 700 toys and 75 gift baskets for the soldiers' spouses. The soldiers also visited classrooms and had lunch with students.
Feeding the hungry
St. Margaret Mary School students are learning about stewardship and service through the Step-by-Step program, which helps them learn about needs in the com- munity at each grade level. Students in first grade, who are learning about hun- ger, collected more than 80 canned goods for Kentucky Harvest, a nonprofit whose mission is to feed the hungry. The entire school also took part in a food drive to benefit Catholic Charities of Louis- ville's Sister Visitor Center and collected 4,600 cans of non-perishable food.
Jumping for heart
Students at St. Marga- ret Mary School collected more than $10,000 for the American Heart Association through a Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser held Oct. 22 through Nov. 15. The students took part in the jump-rope event Nov. 17 during recess, where they jumped rope and participated in other activities while also learning about healthy heart habits.

Care for the elderly
Children in the religious education program at St. Christopher Church in Radcliff, Ky., made a Christmas tree shape with close to 400 boxes of tissue they collected for elderly residents of Signature HealthCARE at North Hardin Rehab and Wellness Center in Radcliff. Every year, residents send a wish list to the parish. This year, the parish invited the children to help so the "next generation of parishioners will hopefully be just as neighborly," said Glory Kramer, pastoral associate.
