EMMITSBURG, Md.- Elizabeth Ann Seton is a saint we can all relate to. She experienced joy and suffering. She had hopes and dreams. She dealt with everyday is- sues and frustrations. And she fell in love. William Magee Seton was a scion of a wealthy New York family and a prosper- ous young businessman com- ing into his own. He was smart, gentle and shared her passion for music and the arts. For nearly a decade, they had a blissful life to- gether. Now, this love story is the subject of "Seeker to Saint: A Storybook Romance," the lat- est in a series of videos about Mother Seton's life produced by the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Em- mitsburg. The videos - available on the shrine's website, https:// setonshrine.org/seeker-to- saint - explore various as- pects of the life and spiritu- ality of the first native-born American saint. Elizabeth Ann Bayley was 19 when she married Seton, 25, and they moved into a home on Wall Street and be- came prominent in society, counting Alexander and Eliz- abeth Hamilton among their neighbors. Elizabeth Seton bore five children, and the couple en- joyed an intimate, devout and even flirtatious relationship. Their marriage, however, would last less than a decade. Will, suffering from tuber- culosis and facing business misfortunes, was encouraged to go to Italy for healing. He died there in 1803 with Eliza- beth by his side. While ultimately tragic, their story embodies the re- demptive power of Christian love and matrimony - a sto- ry that resonates today, said Stephanie Calis, founder and editor-in-chief of Spoken Bride, www.spokenbride. com, a wedding ministry for Catholic brides. She also is the author of "Invited: The Ultimate Catholic Wedding Planner," published in 2021 by Pauline and Media.
Though short-lived, saint's marriage offers couples lessons in love, trust

In 1809, she founded the U.S. Sisters of Charity in Emmitsburg, Md. Stephanie Calis In a Q-and-A, Stephanie Calis recently discussed love, marriage and what Mother Seton can teach us more than two centuries after her own storybook romance.
